These beautiful islands are to be found in the Atlantic Ocean and in a sense they are Portugal’s answer to the Canary Islands but being located further south enjoy a superb tropical climate. Cape Verde comprises of 10 islands and 8 islets, they are of volcanic origin and are located 450 km off the coast of Senegal, western Africa. There are 2 very different types of islands, the first group of islands with a more mountainous terrain include Santo Antão, S.Vicente, Santa Luzia (disabitata), S.Nicolau, Sal and Boavista, the second group located more to the south comprises the islands of Maio, Santiago, Fogo and Brava. One thing that all islands have in common though is wonderful weather, beautiful beaches and fantastic food.
Part of the obvious attraction of these islands is the crystal clear water bathing its sandy shores, ideal for all kinds of water sports, Cape Verde has long been a haven for divers, sport fishermen and windsurfers from all over the world.
